Roma and Wolfsburg battle for Andre Ayew

Italian media outlet Sportmediaset has suggested that AS Roma and Wolfsburg are locked in the battle for the signature of Marseile star Andre Ayew.

OM chairman Jose Anigo has admitted that the Ghanaian will leave the club when his contract expires at the end of the season, and it only remains to be seen where he will end up.

According to Sportmediaset, the likes of Roma, Wolfsburg and Newcastle are all in talks with Ayew s agents over a Bosman deal for the 25-year-old.

The forward appears to have decided to quit Marseille in search of a fresh challenge, and he is currently weighing up his options.

Ayew is, nonetheless, fully focused on helping OM keep their title hopes alive, with the Stade Velodrome outfit somewhat unfortunate not to beat leaders Lyon y…

Goalkeeping woes, Stones and tactical confusion – How Guardiola is making life difficult for himself

Pep Guardiola accepted Manchester City s Premier League title bid was as good as over on Sunday, with the wounds of a punishing 4-0 defeat against Everton still raw.

The abject nature of City s second-half collapse at Goodison Park opens up the very real possibility that a manager who has reached at least the semi-finals of the Champions League in each of his seven attempts may miss out on Europe s elite competition altogether next season, particularly in light of Chelsea, Tottenham and Manchester United s relentless form over recent months.

The imbalanced, aging squad Guardiola inherited when he took the reins from Manuel Pellegrini in July – only Stoke City, West Brom and Watford had a higher average age this weekend than City s starting XI on Merseyside – appear…

Hoffenheim swoop for Vargas

Hoffenheim have completed the signing of Napoli striker Eduardo Vargas on a four-year deal.

The Chile international failed to make an impact at Napoli after joining the Serie A club in 2011 and had loan spells at Gremio, Valencia and QPR.

However, Vargas was the joint-leading scorer in the Copa America as Chile were crowned champions on home soil last month and his performances caught the attention of Hoffenheim.

I look forward not only to the fans, the stadiums and the atmosphere in Germany, but mainly to the possibility of being able to show my aggressive and offensive game in one of the top leagues in the world, Vargas told the club s official website.

Hoffenheim were beaten 2-1 by Bayern Munich on Saturday after losing their first game of the Bu…

Diafra Sakho set to leave West Ham

France Football is reporting that West Ham United forward Diafra Sakho will be leaving London in the coming days.

The Senegalese was first linked with a move to Bordeaux, but latest reports suggest he is heading to Rennes instead.

According to France Football, the two clubs have reached an agreement over an outright transfer, allowing Sakho to sign a deal until June 2020 with les Bretons.

The 28-year-old will be a high-profile signing for Rennes who harbour Europa League ambitions, yet largely struggle up front.

Having bagged mere 28 goals in 23 Ligue 1 fixtures so far, les Bretons will be hoping Sakho can make an instant impact.

Since joining West Ham from Metz in August 2014, the forward has scored 18 goals in 62 Premier League outings.

Dario Sarmiento: Backed by Veron, but why are Man City interested in Estudiantes teenager?

A dribbling specialist

Argentina has long provided a hotbed of young talent that has been poached by the financial might of European clubs and Sarmiento looks set to move across the Atlantic Ocean in the near future.

Looking at players born after the turn of the millennium to have played at least 450 minutes in the Liga Profesional Argentina since the start of 2019-20 gives a good indication of how this burgeoning talent compares to his contemporaries.

It is his dribbling ability that has marked him out as a potential star only Thiago Almada (20) of Velez Sarsfield has more carries with a chance created than Sarmiento (nine).

However, when looked at on a per-90-minutes basis, Sarmiento comes out on top with a league-leading rate of 1.4 compared to Almada…

Jimenez happy at Wolves but doesn’t rule out future move

In a recent interview with Mexican outlet TUDN (via the ), Raul Jimenez said he s very happy at Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The striker was heavily linked with Manchester United in the past, especially in January last year when the Red Devils ended up signing Odion Ighalo on loan, but there s very little chance their interest will be reignited any time soon after the arrival of Edinson Cavani from Paris Saint-Germain. Jimenez confirmed that the interest was real, as well as that from Juventus with the Old Lady looking for the right type of centre-forward to play alongside Cristiano Ronaldo.

But an agreement was never reached and nothing was close. I m very happy at Wolves, he said.

He also revealed that a move could happen at some point in the future, but its natu…

Chelsea defender Alonso latest Premier League player to stop taking a knee

Chelsea wing-back Marcos Alonso will no longer take a knee before Premier League matches as he believes the anti-racism gesture is losing a bit of strength .

Players have been taking a knee prior to kick-off in Premier League games since June 2020 in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement.

Crystal Palace forward Wilfried Zaha and Brentford striker Ivan Toney have both opted out of the gesture this year, arguing that more should be done to eradicate racism.

Alonso has now followed suit and will instead point to the Premier League s No Room for Racism badge on his sleeve when other players kneel.

I am fully against racism and I m against every type of discrimination. I just prefer to put my finger to the badge where it says no to racism, like they…

Chiellini backs Jorginho for Ballon d´Or as Allegri demands more from Rabiot

Giorgio Chiellini is urging Juventus not to focus all of their attention on Romelu Lukaku when they face Chelsea on Wednesday, also highlighting the qualities of Jorginho, who he is backing to win this year s Ballon d Or.

Juve made a winning start to their Champions League campaign two weeks ago with a 3-0 victory over Malmo, though they will expect a rather trickier challenge as Chelsea visit Turin on matchday two.

The contest will see Chiellini renew hostilities with Lukaku, their pair having enjoyed some bruising tussles during the Belgian s time in Serie A with Inter.

But the Chelsea player Chiellini seems to hold in the highest regard is Jorginho, a player he featured alongside as Italy won Euro 2020 earlier this year.

That success coupled with Chel…

International friendly preview: Netherlands v Italy

The Netherlands head into Wednesday s friendly against Italy with an impressive strike rate.

The Dutch have won seven of the 17 internationals between the two countries, dating back to 1920.

They have lost only three matches, the most recent a 3-0 defeat at the 2008 European Championships.

But with Manchester United striker Robin van Persie in impressive form, the Oranje look poised to add to their impressive record against the Italians.

However, coach Louis van Gaal will be without Swansea City goalkeeper Michel Vorm whose injured knee continues to cause him problems.

The former Utrecht shot-stopper has missed his side s last two matches against Sunderland and West Ham because of a persistent knee problem.
