Southampton confirm Selles as head coach until season end

Southampton have decided to give Ruben Selles a chance to lead the team until the end of the season, following the sacking of Nathan Jones earlier this month and the 0-1 victory away to Chelsea last week with Selles, as Jones s former assistant, in command of the team.

This was supposed to be the second spell of the 39-year-old in charge as a caretaker for the job until the club found a permanent solution, but it seems he has convinced the decision makers that he is good enough to be given a longer trial with a view to a permanent manager role.

Selles obviously faces a difficult task, with the Saints currently sitting at the bottom of the Premier League table. However, the triumph over Chelsea has brought the team within two points of Bournemouth and Everton, the two teams currently occupying the last two spots to provide survival at the end of the season, and the hopes of the everyone at the club, as well as those of their supporters, will have been raised significantly.

can today confirm that Rubén Sellés has been appointed as Men’s First Team Manager until the end of the 2022/23 season.
