Man City’s Eric Garcia wants Barcelona return

Manchester City s Eric Garcia is keen to return to Barcelona, according to .

The 19-year-old defender started his football journey at the Catalan club s youth setup and join City s U-18 side in 2017. A year later he was promoted to the U-23s, and he spent most of the 2019/20 season playing for the first team under Pep Guardiola as City failed to make up for the departure of Vincent Kompany last year.

However, City appear keen to add another centre-back to their ranks this time around and they ve reportedly already agreed a deal to sign Nathan Ake from Bournemouth.

Guardiola has apparently long been keen on bringing Barcelona s Sergi Roberto to the Etihad, a highly versatile player who can perform well both in midfield and on the right defensive flank. Though his…

Portland Timbers sign Fernandez from Necaxa

Portland Timbers are completing a club-record signing! According to The Athletic s Sam Stejskal, Timbers have closed a deal for Brian Fernandez, after a long spell of rumours about his arrival. Fernandez arrives at Portland from Liga MX side Necaxa ahead of the end of the primary transfer window which ends on Tuesday for all MLS clubs.

The final transfer fee has not been confirmed, but the Mexican media claim it is in the range of $10m-$12m. That means Timbers are breaking their $5m record from 2015 when they signed Lucas Melano.

Fernandez is 24 years old and has featured at right wing for the club, where he has 18 goals and five assists in 32 appearances across all competitions since joining in 2018. He is set to finish as the second-highest scorer with 12 goals in…

Southampton confirm Selles as head coach until season end

Southampton have decided to give Ruben Selles a chance to lead the team until the end of the season, following the sacking of Nathan Jones earlier this month and the 0-1 victory away to Chelsea last week with Selles, as Jones s former assistant, in command of the team.

This was supposed to be the second spell of the 39-year-old in charge as a caretaker for the job until the club found a permanent solution, but it seems he has convinced the decision makers that he is good enough to be given a longer trial with a view to a permanent manager role.

Selles obviously faces a difficult task, with the Saints currently sitting at the bottom of the Premier League table. However, the triumph over Chelsea has brought the team within two points of Bournemouth and Everton, the two te…

Wales 1-1 Belgium: Moore seals home World Cup qualifying play-off semi-final

Kieffer Moore secured a home World Cup qualifying play-off semi-final for Wales as Belgium were held to a 1-1 draw at Cardiff City Stadium on Tuesday.

Robert Page s side were already assured of a play-off spot, but they headed into the final Group E game desperate to be among the six top seeds.

Although Kevin De Bruyne put an under-strength Belgium – already assured of a place in the tournament in Qatar next year as group winners – in front, Moore equalised in the first half.

Neither side could fashion a winner, but Wales sealed second place and face a home play-off tie in March when they will hope to have captain Gareth Bale – absent here – back to full fitness.

8 Since his international debut in September 2019, Kieffer Moore has scored mor…

Depay will do everything to force Barcelona move in January, says Lyon president Aulas

Memphis Depay will do everything to force a move to Barcelona in January after being left disappointed this month, according to Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas.

The Netherlands international was a key target for Barca coach Ronald Koeman as he looked to sign a player capable of playing as a number nine or in supplementary positions in attack, with Luis Suarez having been allowed to leave for Atletico Madrid.

Lyon sporting director Juninho confirmed on Monday that Depay had agreed terms with the Catalans, but no deal was brokered between the clubs before the transfer deadline.

Aulas says Depay is frustrated at not being able to move but believes a January transfer will be possible.

Ronald Koeman had given Memphis hope, he told reporters on Wednesday. I s…

Barcelona equal record for unbeaten LaLiga run

Barcelona have equalled the record for the longest unbeaten run in a single LaLiga season.

The leaders reached 32 games without defeat in the top flight with a 6-1 thumping of Catalan neighbours Girona at Camp Nou on Saturday.

Luis Suarez completed his hat-trick after Lionel Messi s brilliant first-half brace and Philippe Coutinho scored his first league goal for Barca in spectacular fashion.

The run matches that of Real Sociedad back in 1979-80.

Barca s run surpasses their previous club record of 31 games in a row without defeat, which was set back in 2010-11, when Pep Guardiola s side won 27 games and drew four between matchday three and 33 of the season.

They have only lost three times in all competitions since Ernesto Valverde took charge…

Inter and Sporting at loggerheads over €30million clause as Joao Mario joins Benfica

Inter have come under attack from Portuguese champions Sporting CP after releasing former €40million man Joao Mario to join Benfica.

The Serie A winners announced on Monday they had freed up Joao Mario, whom they signed from Sporting five years ago.

Joao Mario spent last season back on loan with Sporting, helping the team end an 19-year wait for the Primeira Liga title, and had a year remaining on his Inter contract when he was cut free from that deal.

However, rather than return to Sporting on a permanent basis, he has joined their Lisbon rivals Benfica, signing a five-year deal.

Crucially, Sporting say they were due a further €30million from the initial deal that took Joao Mario to San Siro, in the event of him moving on to a rival Portuguese c…

Spartak Moscow 0-2 Benfica: Three things as Eagles gain advantage

Benfica justified their status as the favourites in the first leg of their clash with Spartak Moscow in the third round of the Champions League qualifications on Wednesday evening at the Otkritie Arena in Moscow. Goals from Rafa Silva and Gilberto have given the Portuguese side a considerable advantage ahead of the rematch in Lisbon.

Surprising dynamics

The first legs in any kind of knockout competitions are usually slow affairs, especially in the beginning. Both teams will often take a most cautious approach, rarely taking risk by sending too many players far upfield.

However, it was rather different on this occasion. Both sides sought to take control of the ball and play closer to the opposition goal than their own, and with just five minutes gone, chances started co…
